Description
Live supervision is a powerful, yet underutilized method of clinical supervision that can significantly enhance the development and confidence of emerging therapists. Unlike traditional supervision methods that rely on case notes or retrospective discussion, live supervision offers real-time feedback and support during actual clinical sessions, or review of video taped sessions. This dynamic approach not only strengthens clinical skills but also fosters deeper self-awareness, greater responsiveness, and improved client outcomes.
Â
This training is designed for clinical supervisors and trainers who want to deepen their understanding of live supervision and integrate it more effectively into their supervisory practices. Through interactive instruction, role-playing, and case-based learning, participants will explore the unique benefits that live supervision brings to both supervisees and their clients. They will also examine the logistical and relational considerations needed to implement this method ethically and effectively.
Â
Participants will learn to identify when and how live supervision is most beneficial, and will be introduced to various techniques such as live observation, video taped observation, and in-room co-facilitation. Emphasis will be placed on how to provide constructive, in-the-moment guidance that enhances learning while preserving the therapeutic alliance.
Â
Additionally, the training will address practical strategies for integrating live supervision into existing supervision structures. Participants will be guided in revising their supervision contracts and policies to ensure that live supervision is clearly defined, mutually agreed upon, and aligned with professional and ethical standards.
Â
This training offers a valuable opportunity for supervisors to enhance their teaching impact and support the next generation of clinicians in more dynamic and responsive ways.
Participants
This training is for psychologists, social workers, counselors, school counselors, psychiatrists, family therapists, and other mental health professionals who work with children and families. In order to ensure quality education, each training will be capped at 20 participants, with a minimum of 10 participants.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this workshop participants will be able to:
Identify the benefits of live supervision in clinical training, particularly in fostering therapist growth and confidence.
Demonstrate essential skills used in live supervision to effectively support and guide supervisees during sessions.
Revise supervision contracts and protocols to include live supervision as a structured and intentional part of the training experience.
