Behavioral Regulation Protocol™
The Behavioral Regulation Protocol™ is the foundational phase of the Integrative Systemic Play Therapy (ISPT) model. It is a structured clinical protocol designed to strengthen a child’s physiological regulation and recovery capacity.
The goal is to improve autonomic flexibility, the body’s ability to activate and return to baseline efficiently. Strengthening this regulatory foundation often leads to improved emotional recovery, reduced behavioral intensity, and greater resilience under stress.
The Disruptive Behavior Reset™ is a focused 4-week intervention that applies this protocol in a quick, focused manner to accelerate healing and transitions to other phases of the ISPT model.
The Disruptive Behavior Reset™
A 4-Week Nervous System Training Intensive
When children are chronically explosive, oppositional, or reactive, the issue is often not knowledge — it is regulation capacity.
The Disruptive Behavior Reset™ is a structured, high-frequency protocol designed to train regulation through repetition.
This is not talk therapy.
It is nervous system training.
How It Works
Each session follows the same structured sequence:
- HRV Check-In
We begin by measuring heart rate variability (HRV) — a marker associated with nervous system flexibility. A brief guided breathing exercise establishes baseline regulation. - Rhythmic Bilateral Activation (VR-Based)
Children engage in a structured virtual reality activity requiring:- Bilateral stimulation
- Rhythmic movement
- Cross-body coordination
- Sustained focus under activation
This phase intentionally increases physiological activation in a controlled environment. - HRV Check-Out + Rapid Regulation Skill Training
We re-measure HRV and practice a brief regulation skill (e.g. balancing tasks, coordination drills, object tracking). The goal is repeated activation → recovery cycles.
Across 12 sessions, children experience multiple structured repetitions of:
Activation → Regulation → Recovery
This builds nervous system flexibility
Outcomes Snapshot
While individual results vary, early implementation data and caregiver feedback from families completing the full 4-week Disruptive Behavior Reset™ have shown meaningful improvements in key areas of self-regulation and behavioral stability.
Observed Trends After 4 Weeks
Families who completed the full protocol reported:
- Noticeable reduction in intensity and frequency of emotional outbursts (an average of a 48% reduction, with some families seeing a 77% decrease!)
- Improved recovery time after dysregulation (28%)
- Increased tolerance for frustration and transitions (up to a 58% increase, with some families seeing up to 63% increase!)
- Greater body awareness and ability to use coping strategies independently
- Improved parent confidence in responding to behavioral escalation
Physiological Indicators
Across the 4-week structure (HRV check-in → VR bilateral rhythmic activation → HRV check-out skill practice), many children demonstrated:
- Improved heart rate variability regulation across sessions
- Faster return to baseline after activation
- Increased consistency in regulation patterns over time
These changes suggest growing autonomic flexibility (the body’s ability to activate and settle efficiently) which is foundational to emotional regulation.
What This Means
Rather than focusing only on stopping behaviors in the moment, this protocol targets the underlying regulation system through:
- Rhythmic bilateral stimulation
- Repeated activation-recovery cycles
- Skill integration under mild physiological arousal
The goal is not perfection, it’s increased resilience, faster recovery, and improved regulation capacity over time.
Choose the Level of Support That Fits Your Family
The Disruptive Behavior Reset™ is offered as a structured 12-session package rather than individual drop-in sessions. It is specifically designed to build regulatory capacity through repetition, sequencing, and cumulative skill integration. Offering the program as a complete package helps ensure consistency, follow-through, and meaningful progress across the full four-week intervention period.
Every child receives the same structured 12-session intervention delivered over four weeks.
What differs across tiers is not the clinical protocol itself, but the level of parent involvement, coordination, communication, and reporting included alongside the core training.
The investment for each tier reflects the additional time spent in parent sessions, consultation, documentation, and cross-system collaboration — not a difference in the quality of the regulation training your child receives.
Some families need focused regulation work only. Others benefit from structured parent coaching or school collaboration to ensure changes generalize beyond the clinic.
Below is a clear breakdown of each level.
If you’re unsure which tier is appropriate, we will guide you during your intake consultation.

A Structured Path Forward
The Disruptive Behavior Reset™ is not open-ended therapy. It is a defined, time-limited intervention designed to build measurable regulation capacity.
While outcomes vary by child and family engagement, most families report meaningful improvements in emotional recovery, behavioral intensity, and stress tolerance.
At this time we can only enroll 6 families each cohort to ensure quality attention and sustained progress.
If your family is ready for a focused reset rather than ongoing weekly therapy, this may be an appropriate next step.
FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
Is this a replacement for therapy?
No. This is a short-term structured intervention designed to accelerate regulation skill acquisition. Some families continue therapy afterward; others do not.
Is this appropriate for all disruptive behavior?
No. We assess fit carefully. Active safety concerns or severe psychiatric instability may require higher levels of care.
Why are sessions only 20 minutes?
Short sessions allow for high-frequency repetition. Regulation improves through repeated practice, not extended processing.
Is this covered by insurance?
No. This is a private-pay specialty service.
What happens after the 4 weeks?
You receive a written outcome summary and recommendation plan. Continued services are optional.
Is this backed by research?
The Behavioral Regulation Protocol™ integrates established behavioral, systems, and regulation principles. Early pilot data from the Disruptive Behavior Reset™ show promising trends. Larger data collection is ongoing.
Is VR (Virtual Reality) safe?
Yes. The VR component is structured, supervised, and used as a regulation training tool — not entertainment.
Is this EMDR or ART?
No. While bilateral stimulation is involved, this protocol does not process trauma memories.
Why do you measure HRV?
HRV provides a physiological snapshot of nervous system flexibility. It is one data point among several.
What if my child doesn't like VR?
We assess tolerance during consultation. Significant motion sensitivity may not be a good fit.
How is this different from neurofeedback?
The Disruptive Behavior Reset™ uses structured activation + VR movement with heart rate variability feedback to train regulation capacity. Traditional neurofeedback relies on EEG brainwave patterns and typically requires many more sessions over months. The focus and pace of our protocol are intentionally short and repetitive to build regulation in controlled cycles.
What ages is this appropriate for?
The Disruptive Behavior Reset™ is designed for children and adolescents who are developmentally able to follow simple instructions, tolerate brief use of a VR headset, and participate in structured skill practice.
In most cases, this includes children approximately ages 7–15.
Younger children may participate if they can:
- Follow multi-step directions
- Verbally describe basic emotions or body sensations
- Tolerate wearing a VR headset for short periods
- Engage in brief, structured skill-building activities
Older adolescents may also benefit if dysregulation, emotional reactivity, or slow recovery from stress is a primary concern.
Because regulation capacity varies more by development than by age alone, eligibility is ultimately determined during the intake consultation. We assess:
- Attention span
- Sensory tolerance
- Ability to engage in rhythmic, bilateral movement
- Family goals for treatment
If a child is not a good fit for the VR-based structure, alternative therapeutic approaches will be discussed.
